The Deli

Faith Rubin, well known Jozi cook and foodie, has taken Foodspace @ Verlorenkloof from zero to almost hero. Her signature ALMELBA biscotti, interesting home-made ice-cream and ZEST! lemonade are made in a huge new kitchen with spectacular outlooks. The products also sell at selected outlets in Gauteng and Mpumalanga.

In the wonderful space of the Lodge food products abound. A range of rusks and biscotti, myriad fruity jams and preserves, trout products, patés of smoked trout and chicken liver, mayonnaises, dressings and more.

To capture the warmth of summer, pesto of basil (from Faith’s garden) and Italian sauce of tomato (from neighbour Elsa Venter’s garden) are sold to add to your pasta. From Elsa’s garden also come organically grown salads and vegetables.

As the evenings close in and the weather turns cold, hot soup is always welcome, so in the freezer is an ever-changing selection. Soon to make a re-appearance is Peter J Smiths extraordinary sausages. Available are more and more staples – which you may have forgotten in your dash to get here -  sugar, butter, flour, eggs, Jersey cream, farm milk…

The Coffee Shop

Guests at Foodspace Coffee Shop can now enjoy a good coffee and our renowned cakes every day. Some savoury eats are new on the menu, so bring a bottle of wine and enjoy the food and the views.

The Story of Brunch

Definition – The Free Merriman – Webster Dictionary

Brunch (n) A combination of breakfast and lunch, usually served late morning when one rises too late for breakfast. Typically from 10h00 to early afternoon. Portmanteau word of breakfast and lunch.

The word has been in use since 1896. The meal was most common in the United States – but has now spread around the world. In China they serve “dim-sum brunches”. Like “The Simpsons” say “it’s not quite breakfast, it’s not quite lunch…..”  Brunch is more relaxed than breakfast, less formal than lunch. It is often served after a morning event (trout fishing) or before an afternoon event (trout fishing).

Often hotels and resorts serve buffet brunches – generally on Sundays. A brunch menu usually includes elements of breakfast with elements of lunch.

At Foodspace@Verlorenkloof we serve Sunday brunches, which are becoming more and more in demand.

We are doing Themed Brunches with menus from exotic places. For example:
